Editorial: Nature's balance being changed.

lauricedeephd writes "The slow suffering and demise of pelicans, sea turtles, shrimp, oysters, otters, dolphins, whales and other species too abundant to list is, sadly, man's legacy in the Gulf area. It is one caused by greed and incompetence.

Ultimately, we are all to blame. But it doesn't stop there. The arrogance of mankind in believing that a devastating event such as an oil spill and the ongoing slaughter of wildlife, be it deer, mourning doves or black bear, will be resolved by nature is more than ludicrous.

There is a time in which nature's balance is forever changed. I believe that time is fast approaching. For anyone to live at this time and not grasp the reality of the extreme changes in climate is to be akin to the proverbial ostrich.

One must ask why do we continue to perpetuate destruction of the natural world, responding with lame excuses, i.e. deer are eating my expensive plants, or that, despite facts to the contrary, a bear will some day devour a person. Is this society oblivious to the true facts? Is it truly unaware that many advanced, but fallen, civilizations have been preceeded by the destruction of nature's bounty and that man is always the culprit.

History is meant to teach and make sure mistakes are not repeated. Must this civilization be thrust into oblivion by a wanton minority who remain unlearned and hellbent on killing as proof of some elusive lack of insight and morality?
